In today’s fast-paced communication culture, people are often exposed to fragmented, emotionally charged information that encourages immediate reactions and quick judgments. The Response Chair is an interactive installation that explores how design can create conditions for pause: slowing down response and encouraging more thoughtful engagement.

Two participants sit facing each other and engage in a conversation of their choice, with optional prompt cards if needed. By pressing a button to speak, one participant activates a head massage for the other, guiding them into a more relaxed and receptive state. This simple exchange introduces intentional friction into dialogue, shifting focus from reacting quickly to listening, reflecting, and understanding different perspectives.
